Mrs. Sutton: "Oh, Inspector, I'm so glad you have rung! You're absolutely right. There was a burglar here last night. Not long after you'd gone. We'd just gone upstairs to bed, and the lights downstairs were out, so I suppose he must have thought everyone was asleep. Then, when I came out of the bathroom, I heard a noise coming from downstairs."
Inspector: "What a fool I was! I ought to have come back last night..."
Mrs. Sutton: "Don't worry, Inspector. He didn't take anything. When my husband and I came into the dining-romm, he'd already gone. The window was wide open, and the sideboard was on the floor."
Inspector: "He got in through the window then?"
Mrs. Sutton: "Yes. I afraid I must have forgotten to shut it after supper."
Inspector:
"Right, I'll send Constable David's..."
